  • Responsibilities

    Language Test Raters are responsible for the ongoing delivery and administration of interpreter skills assessments for internal and external clients. Language Test Raters administer Language Proficiency Assessments and specialized Interpreting Proficiency Assessments to determine speaking, listening, reading, writing, and interpreting proficiency in English and Spanish. Additionally, the Language Test Rater is responsible for developing interpreter assessment forms and reporting results of assessments to internal and external clients. Language Test Raters must possess exceptional language, interpretation and communication skills and be completely familiar with all aspects of the company’s systems, technology and policies.

     

    • Conduct Oral Proficiency Interviews by asking candidates a series of carefully designed questions that gradually increase in complexity
    • Evaluate how accurately candidates can speak a language according to TransPerfect Connect’s protocols and procedures
    • Be able to accurately rate candidates based on the ILR scale (Inter-Agency Language Roundtable), whichare the guidelines used by federal agencies
    • Perform assessments for internal and external clients, including assessing client interpreters, new hire interpreter candidates and current interpreter staff
    • Conduct internal interpreter monitoring to ensure that each interpreter provides quality interpretation consistent with established competencies
    • Maintain all testing information, including scheduling, results and following up using established tools; report results to clients
    • Collaborates with the Testing, Training and Quality Departments to ensure a consistent approach to testing process implementation for the most accurate and reliable results and to maintain compliance with all relevant guidelines, regulations, and objectives
    • Maintain effective working relations with members of Testing, Training, Quality and various levels of management
    • Ensure that assessments occur in the most consistent and reliable fashion
    • Ensure testing data is properly compiled, organized, presented, and utilized in the most accurate and effective manner
    • Propose and implement process improvement changes
    • Participate in translation, quality monitoring, and research activities
    • Act professionally with regards to appearance, conduct and promptness
    • Maintain professional standards and ethical practices inherent to the position
    • Perform other duties as requested

    Qualifications

    • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience required
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Six months’ interpretation experience; in Over the Phone Interpretation environment preferred
    • Professional proficiency in English and Spanish
    • Proficiency in professional written communications skills in English and Spanish
    • Ability to evaluate and describe language proficiency
